BIOGRAPHY

Abstract Linear Background

Craig started square dancing in 1962 and began his square dance calling career in 1969.

​

I had no intention of being a square dance caller as a shy and bashful kid but, at a dance when callers used 45 rpm records, the record was skipping on the callers turntable.  He was not happy and threw it out on the floor like a frespy and it landed at my feet.  I took it home and it did not skip on my Parents stereo.  My first singing call on Grenn, Kingston Town.  I was 14.

 

Following his retirement from the US Postal Service in the fall of 2002, Craig expanded his 55 year calling  career by developing a full-time calling program.

​

Craig is currently calling over 200  nights a year across the United States (23 States so far) and Canada.  Craig resides in the state of Oregon where he maintains a home program that ranges from Mainstream all the way through A2 and cues Round Dances Phase 2 thru 4 and.  Craig also calls for One Night Party Hoedown Dances some which are annual events.  Craig is club caller for the following clubs:

Craig is an accredited member of CALLERLAB and also a member of ROUNDALAB and is ASCAP/BMI and SESAC licensed.  Craig is Past President of the North Willamette Callers & Cuers Association.  2020-21 WA State Footnotes Magazine Square Dance Editor.

Craig has recorded on Rawhide-Buckskin and Cascade Records.

​

Craig has been Caller Schedule Programmer for the following Square Dance Festivals, 1994-Vice Chairman, Square Dance Programmer, 2007- USA West Convention, Pocatello, ID and, 2016- WA State Festival, Longview, WA.

Craig was Featured Caller/Keynote Speaker  on 2017 Washington State Leadership Seminar and Featured Caller in 2022 for Montana State Festival.

Craig is currently on staff at Yellowstone Campground, Lolo, MT and Yakima Spring Sashay Weekend with Adam Christman, Moxee, WA (formally with Front Porch Trio, Craig, Adam and the late Jim Hattrick)  Craig has also called  for individual clubs, weekends and festivals having called at National, State and Area functions and, would love to call for your function as well.

Craig's love of calling is evident by his enthusiasm displayed behind the mike.   He believes Square Dancing should be "FUN", no matter what level is being called.  Craig's motto is - "If it's not Fun, I will not do it!
